The Passive Voice with two objects


In Spanish, only the Direct Object ("complemento directo") can be the subject of the passive voice. You can never use the Indirect Object ("complemento indirecto") as the subject of the passive voice.

El alumno le entregó la tarea al profesor --> La tarea fue entregada por el alumno

(you cannot say:   ***El profesor fue entregada la tarea***).

But in English, both objects can be the subject of the passive voice, as you can see in the example given in the grey box of page 73 of your textbook:

The vet gave the rabbits injections   --->  The rabbits were given injections
                                                          --->  Injections were given to the rabbits

The Causative Form 

This is the following structure:

Subject + Have or Get + Direct Object + Past Participle

For example:

I had my house painted last year (en español decimos "Pinté mi casa el año pasado", cuando en realidad queremos decir "Hice que alguien pintara mi casa")

The Passive Voice

We had already started reviewing the Passive Voice on Friday 13th March.
You have a list of all tenses in the passive voice on page 131 of your textbook.
Now it's time to start doing the activities of page 72.

Homework:  Activities 1, 2 and 3 of page 72.

Deadline: Friday 27th March 23:59

All your homework sent to Google Classroom will be taken into account for your Third Term mark.


ABOUT YOUR SECOND TERM MARKS

As you may know, we teachers have to write the second evaluation marks next week, in spite of not having been able to mark any final exams.

For your mark of the second term, I will take into account:
1) your first term mark,
2) the mark of the middle term exam we did on February 5th,
3) your work during the second term (compositions and homework).
